Job Description
Journeyman Electrician OVERVIEW:

Install, inspect, troubleshoot, repair, maintain or alter electrical services, equipment and controls, using approved and properly sized wire, conduit, raceways and equipment. Work will be performed both indoors and outdoors in all types of weather conditions. * A solid understanding of NFPA 70E is required, and employees are expected to work on equipment in the Arc Flash PPE that is necessary to perform the work. * Work with high- and low-voltage systems, such as transformers, high voltage primary feed and secondary transformers to include installation, troubleshooting and repair as required. * Work from CAD drawings/blueprints, schematics, sketches or verbal instructions to install modify, troubleshoot, maintain and repair equipment and components as required. * Install static grounding circuits, and have working knowledge of NEC requirements for bonding and grounding. * Maintain work area and equipment in a safe, efficient and clean operating conditions. Strictly adhere to all safety rules and regulations. * Report to supervisor any equipment in need of repair or any unsafe situation or condition. * Operate efficiently, all hand/power tools, test instruments and equipment normally used by this trade and maintain/return in good condition. * Assist in performing other duties, including work of other trades as required. * This position will develop and write maintenance procedures for R&D and facility systems. Prepares written text, rewrites, edits, proofreads and reviews technical manuals. Researches available technical data including drawings, design reports, equipment, and test specifications. May work with engineers and other technical personnel.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: * High school graduate or equivalent. Vocation or technical school certification. Courses in Electrical Theory and Practice, 4 to 5 years of experience. Be familiar with the local Electrical Code. Understand wiring diagrams, schematics CAD drawings/blueprints. Have thorough knowledge of the various types of electrical motors and controls. * Three to five years apprenticeship or equivalent experience in electrical installation and repair in an industrial environment. A State of Michigan Electrical License is required * Must have adequate skills to perform required job functions with minimal supervision. * All applicants must possess a valid and current Michigan Driver's License. * Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability and desire to learn. * Ability to obtain certification to operate powered vehicular equipment such as, but not limited to, burden carriers, fork trucks, aerial lifts, etc. * Must possess a reasoning ability to deal with problems involving a few known variables in routine situations.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS: *
The position also requires both near and far vision when inspecting work and operating assigned equipment. * The employee will need to lift, carry and push tools, equipment and supplies weighing 25 pounds or more is also required. * Additionally, the position requires work to be performed in all weather conditions including wet, hot and cold. * Position requires sitting, standing, walking on level and slippery surfaces, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, stooping, squatting, crouching, grasping and making repetitive hand movement in the performance of daily duties. * The individual may use cleaning and lubricating chemicals, which may expose the employee to fumes or airborne particles, and may be exposed to mechanical and electrical hazards. * The nature of the work also requires the individual to walk long distances on hard surfaces, climb ladders up 40 feet in height, use power and noise producing tools and equipment, drive motorized vehicles and heavy equipment, work in heavy vehicle traffic conditions and often work with constant interruptions. * Ability to work overtime as necessary to meet service demands. * Ability to work on a variety of tasks with frequent interruption. * Ability to interact with staff and others in an open, friendly manner. * Ability to follow complex instructions with minimal supervision. * Ability to work independently. * Ability to follow regulations pertaining to the safe operation of equipment
