Your Role:

The Mission of the Controls Engineer - Automation Specialist is to program, commission, and install automated solutions developed by the Application Center North America. The Controls Engineer - Automation Specialist will work with our automation team during the design phase of projects and act as a reference to provide feedback and experience from the field. The Controls Engineer - Automation Specialist will assist with programming and debugging of the system while the project is assembled within our workshop. Upon completion, they will follow the project into the field and assist with installation and commissioning at the customer site.

You will work with the Automation project team (Project Management, Controls Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, design, and production). You will perform on-site field checks of existing equipment. You will report to the Software & Controls Engineering Manager.

To Succeed, You Will Need:

  • An Associate or Bachelor's degree in either Engineering or a related field or 5+ years of on-the-job experience

  • To travel 50% per month to support installations/commissioning of projects at customer sites throughout the USA

  • To report onsite/in-person to Auburn Hills, MI office when not traveling #LI-Onsite

  • 5 years experience programming PLCs and HMIs using either Allen Bradley or Siemens control architectures

  • 5 years of experience Testing and Debugging Ladder Logic in automation products

  • 5 years of experience writing Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) and Human Machine Interface (HMI) scripts from scratch using Ladder Logic

  • 5 years of experience performing remote and in-person field support to installation technicians/teams

  • 5 years of experience with Cobot/Robot integration in light assembly cells in a customer environment
